Why the Queens is a Regular Haunt of Mine

posted on 26 April 2012

Lazy Sunday afternoons with friends. Enjoying a tall, ice-cold beer sitting on one of their rubber coasters out on the deck. As the sun slowly sets over the Indian Ocean. This is how I fondly remember my favourite pub back home in Perth, The Queens. Over the better part of fifteen years I'd have a drink at The Queens with friends at least once a week. Saturday or Sunday afternoons were my favourite times there, often before a big night out, or recovering from one after the previous night. But then there were also the mid-week nights. After a couple of hours sweating it out playing tennis, or going mountain biking, someone in the group would often say simply, "Queens?", and we'd hit the pub for a few pints, and often it would turn into many more. A great pub it was, and how I miss it. I'm a family man and those days are well and truly behind me now, but I have to say that this is one of things I'll be looking forward to the most when I head back home next for a visit.
