Everything Goes with a little Black and Whiteposted on 22 February 2012 in FashionMy favorite color scarf is either black or white. I have many black and whites scarves as well as in between, scarves which are made of both colors in many patterns. These two colors go with any dress or attire. Whether I am wearing my long leather overcoats or a simple over coat with a suit and tie or just some slacks and a nice shirt black pashminas and white scarves are awesome. I imagine this like for these color scarves stem from my being lazy and not wanting to match what I wear with the rest of my clothes but it must have been serendipitous in itself. I discovered a look which suits me. My many forms of scarves are short, thin, fat and my favorite which are long. Much like my beloved Doctor on television, even if I wrap one of my scarves around my neck once or twice the ends still hang down past my feet. |

I Dare Myself to Tear Out That Wallposted on 9 February 2012 in Construction and IndustrialI love our midwestern suburban house but I have learned that the good people of 1972, the year it was built, had completely different expectations about comfortable bedroom size. Back then they didn't have the conveniences of hook and loop fastenings and the like! The master bedroom is what I’d call an acceptable size, helped by an angled entry into the corridor and a sliding-glass door to the garden. But bedrooms two and three, adjacent to each other, are both truly tiny. Naturally it’s occurred to me to knock out the wall between them. Well, more than that, really. I have it all worked out, actually, accounting for the closet space (we wouldn’t lose any), the load-bearing supports (none), the difference in property value between a two-bedroom and three-bedroom house (we’re willing to make the sacrifice for the sake of livability), down to a fairly exact budget and even paint color after the wall comes out. But something is holding me back. A little voice tells me this is a Big Deal. In the back of my mind, something worries me about tearing out that wall. Isn’t that funny? |

Good Dentists Make The Difference Between Good and Bad Visitsposted on 8 February 2012 in Health and BeautyFrom the time I was seven until I was in my early thirties I had one dentist, who in my opinion now that I know better, was not a good dentist. The mere thought of visiting him, whether it was for a cleaning, filling or extraction would cause my hands to sweat and feel anxious and jittery. The extractions were the worst, since I felt every pull, every twist, the separation of the tooth from the gum. The dentist would try to make me believe it was all in my head, or I was feeling only the pressure and not pain. In his mind I couldn't feel the pain because he'd given more than enough of his choice of local anesthetic. No matter how much I disagreed he continued with the extraction until the tooth was free. For years I actually started to believe him and thought this was the same thing everyone who went to a dentist experienced. Years later, and many states away I had to once again seek a dentist to extract another tooth that was bothering me. I asked around to see who my friends would recommend and several suggested the same derby dentist, so that's the one I made the appointment with. After signing in at the front desk I was quickly escorted back to a typical room, sat through a quick physical check then a number of x-rays. When the dentist re-entered the room in informed me the tooth would have to come out, and immediately I got that anxious jittery feeling. The local was given and the dentist said he'd be back in a few minutes to start. When he returned and began to prod around in my mouth I twitched, he stopped and took the time to ask if I still had feeling in the area of the tooth, which I did. He stopped and gave me a little more of the local, then left the room for another brief period. Again he started and again I twitched, my mouth was still not numb. He looked perplexed for a moment, then said he wanted to try something. He gave me another shot of the local, but this time instead of injecting it along the nerve that runs from the back of the jaw to the front, he put it in the front of my mouth. Again he left saying he would be back in couple of minutes. He wasn't gone for more than thirty seconds when I felt the entire right side of my face and jaw go numb. When he returned and I told him about my mouth now being numb, his explanation was in some cases the nerves enter from the front of the jaw and go back, rather than from the back to the front. I didn't even feel a single twinge of pain or discomfort during the extraction. His caring nature and taking the time to make sure I was comfortable has made all the difference in how I now view dental visits. |

Why I Do Not Mind Ad Banners on Websitesposted on 8 February 2012 in Internet RelatedIn general, I do not mind seeing ad banners on websites. If there is content that I want to read, I would rather have the advertisers paying for it than pay any charges myself. It seems relatively easy to ignore messages that I am not interested in. Sometimes, even if the product is not something I would want to buy, it is fun to see the eye catching headlines that promise to make you look 30 years younger or 50 pounds lighter. The only things that irritate me are the cheap animations sometimes because they kind of look like zombies. In the best cases, the ads are closely tied to the subject of the website so I often find new products and organizations that I appreciate knowing about. Overall, I would not make any extra effort to look at ad banners but I understand their importance and do not get bothered by them. |

Operation Clean-up: Why My First Apartment Was a Nightmareposted on 6 February 2012 in Construction and IndustrialI always envisioned the day I moved into my first apartment would be an exciting and happy occasion. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a nightmare I’ll never forget. Although the apartment still needed a few minor repairs and fresh paint, I was assured that everything would be taken care of by maintenance. I signed the lease, paid the required deposit, and was then given the keys to my kingdom with a promise that I would be able to move in two days later. With great anticipation, I put my key in the lock and swung open the door to my new home. To my horror, I was greeted with dingy, grimy, unpainted walls, floors covered with dust bunnies the size of golf balls and foggy windows. I've cleaned slimline oil tanks and done other messy jobs, but this would require even more patience and hard work from me to deal with this. When I confronted the landlady, she simply shrugged her shoulders and informed me that the painters wouldn’t be available until the following week. However, I was still free to move in since I’d already paid that month’s rent. How generous of her. Instead of telling her off, I redirected my anger to the monumental task of cleaning the apartment from ceiling to floor. Bucket after bucket of dirty water was deposited down the toilet as I scrubbed the walls and floor. It took three medium-sized garbage bags to collect all the dust from the floor. I polished the windows until they gleamed. The sinks, bathtub and toilet would have passed inspection better than those in a hospital. Twelve hours later, my apartment was finally habitable. I then headed for the shower to clean off the grime and dirt that had collected on me during the cleaning process. Every muscle in my body ached and I was exhausted by the time I stumbled into bed. Instead of falling asleep with the odor of fresh paint in the air, my aroma therapy was pine-scented disinfectant and bleach |

Options for Personal Injury Claimsposted on 6 February 2012 in UncategorisedFollowing an accident resulting in a personal injury, there are several options you may want to consider. You will need to decide what course of action you wish to take, such as whether or not you want to file a official complaint against the person or organisation you hold responsible for the accident that caused your injuries. If you decide to file a complaint, you will also need to decide of you want to file a claim for compensation to cover the medical costs and any losses that have you have suffered or will suffer as a result of the injury, including the loss of income. Additionally, if your accident was traumatic, you will very likely want to seek counselling. This is often an important step in recovery from a personal injury. Keep in mind, this is a part of your medical expenses and is usually covered in your claim. Be aware that there is usually an official complaints procedure you should follow, and if you want to seek compensation, you must take legal action within a specific amount of time. You will need to file your complain to the appropriate organisation or body depending on the type of injury and the location of the accident for example, governmental departments, employer, or the police. You can get information about filing a complaint by seeking someone who has experience in this area, for example, a Citizens Advice Bureau, solicitor, or a claims assessor (also known as a claims manager). Claims assessors work on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis. Before you accept their services, be certain the claims assessor is authorised by the government and follows a strict set of regulations regarding advertising, conducting business, and handling and represent clients. You will need a solicitor to pursue legal action be certain the person or partner group specialises in personal injury cases. Due to the time limits involved in filing personal injury claims, you should seek legal advice promptly. Assistance for legal costs may be available from legal aid, 'no win no fee' solicitors, trade union or other membership organisation or insurance or you can visit Whiplashclaims.org.uk for more information. |

My Experience of Staying in a Caravan as a Childposted on 6 February 2012 in Holiday and TravelWhen I was a child we didn't go on many holidays, mainly because we didn't have a lot of money and going abroad was quite an expensive thing to do in those days. Occasionally though we did hire a caravan - we couldn't afford the caravans for sale in our area - and go somewhere for a week or two. I used to love these holidays, there is something quite exciting to a child to live in a caravan for a couple of weeks. Perhaps it is the entirely different way of living, or the unusual aspect of being able to take a couple of steps and being outside, or maybe just the sense of adventure and being somewhere new. I used to love just climbing down from the caravan and being able to look at the sea or the surrounding countryside. I'm not sure I would like it so much now though, the size of the caravans, which seemed quite big when I was a child, would seem cramped now and probably drive me crazy! |

Avoid It Getting Lost and Track What Mattersposted on 4 February 2012 in Cars and TransportI inherited the family business a few years back and I must say that the website Track What Matters really helped me a lot. When I first inherited the business, I had no idea on what to do with it and how it actually even works. We own a truck delivery service and we had a lot of clients—both big and small. My dad would often call each driver personally to make sure that they aren’t lost however, I didn’t know this when I got the business. After a few clients, we experienced one massive lost delivery that got lost and confused somewhere. After that, I found Track What Matters online and immediately bought a GPS device for each truck. Thanks to Track What Matters, I can now track the location of each and every truck without calling the drivers. This made life a lot simpler and prevented any mishap like that from happening again. |

My Account of Living in a Boxcar Houseposted on 1 February 2012 in Home and GardenI refer to my home as the "boxcar house." It was originally built in 1900 as a one-floor summer cottage, but over the years a succession of owners kept adding on to it, including a second floor. The problem is, no one thought anything through. Each new owner just kept tacking on one room after another, until it resembled a series of train coaches. With enough money, I would knock out walls, create great rooms and add lots of windows. In its current incarnation, my house is claustrophobic and downright clunky - even with fold away tables, there's not much room. I have to walk through a bedroom to get to another bedroom. The only other thing I would change would be the bathroom. It is located right off the kitchen. I would take away the door, wall up the door entrance and create a new bathroom entrance off the rear foyer. |

All About My Camera Loveposted on 31 January 2012 in Recreation and HobbiesI tend to find that when I have a choice of camera available to me, be it a professional high end piece of equipment, a more affordable disposable camera, camera phone or otherwise, I'll always have a specific job or kind of photo in mind that I want to take with it. I have one professional camera, currently. It's a Canon. Not an overly expensive one, I've seen better, but I have several of the fancy lenses for it and I usually find that it does the best job when I want something really crisp, especially for sunsets or model shots, or maternity photography shots. Having taken my camera phone with me to several gigs in the past, they've never really let me down. Mobile phones are a gadget that I can't quite live without. I can't bring myself to downgrade a phone if I've currently got quite a good camera on mine, but the MP isn't as high on a new one that i'm considering, and why should i? You buy new equipment to upgrade in every way, surely? Camera phones are handy to have on you when you need something small, something portable and light, something quick that you don't have to mess with too many settings to get the result that you want. They're handy too because at some music gigs, you're searched before you enter and cameras are sometimes quite often taken off you! They can't take a phone off you, especially when it's hidden! Of course, some people expect too much from their camera phones sometimes I think, but the fact is, there are quite a few really good ones out there on the market now. My nokia n97 has a Carl Zeiss 5MP camera. For earlier models the cameras had a design flaw, in that the sliding mechanism for the cover was positioned too close to the actual lens which resulted in scratches being left behind over the lens as you slide it open and closed again. No good, obviously. Nokia for a limited time, would offer to replace this part free of charge, and if you were one of the luckier people to either get this replacement, or a newer phone which had the design flaw rectified anyway, for a camera phone it could take some seriously impressive shots. It had a macro setting, cool editing features, and for live gigs and music venues it worked a dream. With its continual recording features, you could record a whole gig without having to stop between songs, and they were good enough quality to upload to websites such as youtube, also not having to compromise on audio quality which was also brilliant. Disposable cameras, I suppose they've faded into the background somewhat these days. It's a shame really, I had some cute memories back in the day going on holiday and making sure to buy one or two disposable cameras to take with me. Just to have the ease of being able to drop them off at the developers after, leaving them there for a week whilst patiently working through the excitement of waiting to go and collect your packet of photos and negatives and flick through tutting at the overexposure or stray fingers in lens shot that you hadn't noticed while taking the photos. Memory cards and digital cameras have taken over, but then we are definitely of the digital age now, and there's nothing bad about that. It's made having a hobby such as photography more easily accessible to everybody, and not only basically or crudely. With a decent camera, a few decent lenses and perhaps a picture editor package on your computer you're quite basically set to open your own studio, more or less. I've seen people go from amateur camera lovers, to calling themselves professional photographers within a matter of weeks simply because they've read a few manuals and worked out all the clever settings on their camera. Some oldies will inevitably get left behind, but that's progress for you. Just like the recent news of Kodak going out of business, all we can hope for is for the remaining companies to put more effort into making their cameras some seriously impressive stuff. |

My Favorite Fashion Item: A Nice Pair of Jeansposted on 26 January 2012 in FashionI can appreciate all kinds of fashion items - from my boutique Maggie and Me dresses to my pashminas. However, my favorite fashion item would have to be jeans. I really like wearing a nice pair of jeans, and they seem to be my main point of interest in clothing, and fashion. My favorite kinds of jeans are baggy jeans. They are very comfortable, and look “hip”, and “cool” as well. I like darker colored jeans, however, I do wear jeans that are a bit lighter from time to time. The brands I usually wear are Wrangler, Levi, and Real Work-Wear. They are all very long-lasting, comfortable, and reliable jean brands. I absolutely cannot stand wearing a pair of jeans that I do not like. If they are too tight, too short, or perhaps just an extremely light color, then I will be uncomfortable all day. That is why I always try new jeans on, and wear them at home for a little while to be sure they fit my liking. Jeans are probably one of my most liked articles of clothing. |

Ask for discounts in all that you buy.posted on 22 January 2012 in Home and GardenThe times that we are living in these days are so hard such that it can be hard for you if you do not have a job or any other source of money. You may not survive well also if you do not know how to bargain for a price reduction for most of the items that you purchase. There are people who will never purchase in places where the prices are fixed because they have to make a saving for every purchase that they make, which is understandable. We do not ask for discounts when we are buying items alone but also when we are hiring services. If for instance you are hiring felt roofing services, consider a roofer that will give you a discount so that you will pay less in the end. Settling for what is available always will leave you with less of what you need while you could have got all that you needed if you make a saving on each of them. The good thing is that traders are always willing to negotiate. |

Creative Ways to Market Your Business Without the Use of the Internetposted on 21 January 2012 in Business and FinanceAnyone with a business wonders how they can get more customers to visit their storefront. You are in competition with many other businesses and need to find a way to make your company stand out. First of all, it will depend on what you are selling in your business. If it is clothing, then perhaps hosting a fashion show for the community portraying your clothing lines would be great advertisement, or getting some ad vans to drive around displaying your ad (at the very least). If you are trying to sell photography packages, then getting out and doing charity work for the community taking photographs would be a great way to get your skill out there. For those selling cars, you could hold a large auction and family fun day to get people out to your car lot for the day. My biggest tip would be to hold some type of community event that people will enjoy without the intention of purchasing. They will, however, leave with your company name in mind. |

Where the Streets Have Some Shameposted on 21 January 2012 in Cars and TransportTake a stroll around the town and it is not hard to find that the streets will differ greatly in terms of tidiness. Some employ armies of road sweepers to keep their roads clean, some are far more neglected. It is pleasing on the eye to see a street with neatly kept gardens and the pride taken by the owners to present the properties and pavements well. This was the first street you encounter. You turn on to an adjoining street and the picture can look very different. Every other step along the street presents you with that discarded cigarette end and and if you are unlucky you may come across an unpleasant pile of dog waste, that you just manage to avoid. On the gentle breeze a wrapper, crisp packet or carrier bag hurries by and then the pavement is partially blocked by a sodden and rather unappealing armchair discarded by an unknown being. As you near the end of the road a crunch sound can be heard under your feet - ah, the remains of the glass from the phonebox window across the road. First impressions count and reflect the overall impression of the area. Overfull bins and broken gates and fences show no care or pride. Is this the residents or council's problem? If more pride and care was taken by all - tidy streets can help restore confidence and overall improvement in a town's reputation. |

The Joy of Making Gifts for Loved Onesposted on 19 January 2012 in FashionWhen buying a gift for a family members or friends, it can be a painful experience. Besides considering your budget you also have to consider what he/she likes. This is where the headache begins not only do you have to guess what he/she likes, he or she might not like it! To save the hassles just try making the gift. Making a gift can be as simple as making a card or knitting a sweater, or using jewellery making supplies to make bespoke jewellery. These gifts are usually fine for a girl but a guy might be a little more complicated. If you can not figure out what to make for the guy, just buy him a power tools. Always work! The gift does not have to be expensive or fancy as long as you put a little thought into it, it would be fine. If they do not like the gift forget them! P.S. Any real family members or friends will always love the gift regardless of what it is. |
